Academic Advising
Dunwoody faculty and academic staff conduct timely academic advising to support student success. Every student at Dunwoody is assigned an academic advisor.
Who is my academic advisor?
Students can find their assigned advisor in their acceptance packet from Admissions, and also on my.dunwoody in the Academic Plan. Depending on the curriculum, a student may be assigned a different advisor each term or year, or maintain the same advisor for the duration of their degree.
Post-Secondary Education Option (PSEO) Students are advised by the PSEO Coordinator in conjunction with directors and academic staff.
What will we talk about?
Your academic advisor is here to help you succeed—academically and professionally. Advising at Dunwoody is a collaborative process focused on your academic journey and career goals. Your academic advisor will guide you through key academic decisions and expectations, and connect you with resources when non-academic concerns arise.
Academic advisors support you with academic topics such as:
- Understanding your grades, including midterm and assignment performance
- Monitoring your GPA and navigating the Student Academic Progress (SAP) process, including academic warning (AW) or probation (AP) statuses
- Developing professional behaviors expected in the workplace—like timeliness, problem-solving, collaboration, communication, and ethical decision-making
- How to request make-up or resubmitting assignments or assessments
- Feedback to increase or improve your work performance
- Changing majors
- Planning your academic path and preparing for graduation
- Finding employment in your desired future profession
Where can I find information about my academic career?
My.Dunwoody is an online portal containing student information. Available through LaunchPad, the portal provides students access to view grades, schedules, academic plans, and unofficial transcripts. My.Dunwoody also includes services such as monitoring your financial aid award, account balance and ways to pay tuition.
My.Dunwoody's academic plan is a degree progress tracking tool that displays both Core Curriculum and Technical course requirements for the program in which the student is currently enrolled. An academic plan shows what has been completed, what is in progress, and what remains to satisfy academic requirements for graduation.
Students should monitor their progress toward their declared degree or certificate path using the academic plan on my.dunwoody. This plan may also be used by faculty, deans, directors, faculty advisors, and Student Affairs advisors in advising sessions.
